Hotel WiFi has one structural problem that no individual property can fully solve: shared bandwidth across all guests. A hotel with 200 rooms and a 500 Mbps internet connection sounds adequate. Split across 150 simultaneous users at peak check-in time, each guest gets roughly 3 Mbps before WiFi overhead is factored in.

Speed varies sharply by time of day. Early morning and late afternoon, when most guests are out, hotel WiFi can reach 20-40 Mbps. Between 7-10 AM and 7-10 PM, when guests are in their rooms, speeds drop to 1-5 Mbps. These are the hours you are most likely to want video calls or video streaming.

Coverage dead zones are common. Thick concrete walls in older European hotels block WiFi signal on floors far from the access point. Pool areas, gyms, and hotel restaurants frequently have no WiFi coverage at all. 2. Man-in-the-Middle on HTTP Traffic

HTTPS encrypts your traffic. HTTP does not. Any unencrypted page you visit on hotel WiFi is readable to anyone watching the network. Many internal hotel systems, booking confirmation pages, and travel sites still serve some content over HTTP.

3. Session Hijacking

Authentication cookies transmitted over shared networks can be captured. An attacker with your session cookie for a banking or email service can access that account without knowing your password. This risk is highest on unencrypted networks.
